The 5 Most Useful Watercolor Brush Types:

  1. The Mop Brush – washes of color, very loose wet on wet textured painting
  2. The Flat Brush – washes of color with precise crisp edges and blending
  3. The Fan Brush – ripples in water, leaves, blades of grass
  4. The Details Brush – small precise areas of detail, particularly in the foreground
  5. An old worn out brush – similar to the effects the mop brush has but on a smaller scale which makes it less loose in style and more controllable

All of the above brushes when combined together are highly versatile and allow you to create different textures and effects that make your painting process so much more efficient and fun. Each brush has its own features, advantages and disadvantages, and separate effects the design of the brush allows you to accomplish. For a full explanation, please watch the video.
