Botanical Illustrations
A set of flower illustrations exploring five different ways of drawing with fineliner pens

I wanted a set of illustrations where I could compare different drawing techniques with pen. Here are the pen drawing techniques I used for the drawings above:

  • Hatching
  • Cross-hatching
  • Stippling
  • Scribbling
  • Continuous line drawing

I’ve also uploaded the video below where I explain how I draw using each different technique and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each one:

Started a New Art Journal Today!

Sometimes I start feeling really hindered by issues with wanting perfection when I have a sketchbook I want to remain really clean and crisp so I thought it’d be really fun and good for me to branch out and get more experimental by trying out art journaling… And I’m so glad I did. Even though I’ve only made one page so far it was so much fun and I’m looking forward to making the sketchbook itself into as much of a part of the art as the actual art is and being able to create a more interactive and exploratory sketchbook.

Here is today’s drawing, created with graphite pencil and layers of tracing paper:
